Thumbs up new computer

hey guys, right now my computer sucks very badly, and will soon be unable to play Guild Wars.

So.....right now I'm looking to buy a new computer that is fairly decent in the way of gaming for around $1000. I want to buy one, not build. IF you know of any computer websites that has a computer like this, please post it. Thanks a bunch.

Dell's XPS line isn't that bad, the best bet though it to build it. I know that's not what you want to do, but learn. It's easy

If you actually want to get your money's worth, then build your own. Do you have any friends or the like who would build it for you? I know I routinely build PC's for friends, its not hard or anything, lol.

Its not difficult at all, and i'll be glad to help you get the most of your money. You can't really screw anything up, as long as you make sure all your stuff is quality and works together, and don't try to force anything, if it doesn't fit then...it probably isn't meant to fit that way.

Just post a list of games you intend to play, lenght of time before upgrade, budget, intended uses, etc...

Im gonna use it mostly for gaming and school porjects i need to do, and surfing the web and such. I probably wont upgrade it that much, cuz i dont have that much money 2 use...and ya

Mostly for gaming? You could possibly go with a single-core Athlon 64 now that prices have dropped - the 3800+ is at a very attractive sub-$200 (USD). Dual-core AMD still comes at a hefty premium.

If you want dual core, a Pentium D 930 at roughly $210 (you can also go for the 820, 830, or even 805 if you're on a tight budget) will suffice, but will offer less gaming performance in lieu of snappier multitasking. The choice is up to you.

You're probably keeping your peripherals, so all you really need is a new processor, motherboard, (maybe) RAM, and a case if you decide to keep the old box around.

Something along the lines of:

AMD X2 3800+ - $300
ASUS A8N-E - $100
G.Skill 2GB Extreme Series PC3200 - $200
Enermax Liberty 500w - $110
Sapphire X1800XT- $250 or EVGA 7600GT - $200
Case - $100
HDD - $100
CD / DVD - $30

Estimated Total - $1200

Thats a rough build, that doesn't quite fit into your budget. Though if you like the look of it, I can help you to slim down the build price.

I just finished building one, around $1200 total.

AMD x2 3800 - $297
EVGA nForce 4 micro ATX - $99
EVGA nvidia 7900 GT KO Superclocked (Free Copy of Hitman)- $299
Enermax Liberty 500W - $95
Corsair XMS 2 gig DDR400 - $151
Seagate Barracuda 80GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s x2 - $102
DVD Burner, +/- , RW, dual layer, lightscribe ect. - $40
Floppy Drive - $8
Ultra Micro Fly Case - $50 (tigerdirect)
Silent Fans, Keyboard/Mouse, LEDs, Short Cables - $50

Newegg supplied all except for case, they are great, you save a lot, shipping is low, ordered on a monday night, arrived on a thursday afternoon.

3Dmark06 was around 5600, a little more than you need for guildwars, but with all the new graphic intense games coming out it should be sufficient.

Stay away from Dell

Dell isn't to bad, but if you want you can order a refurbished XPS and the price significantly drops from a brand new one.
